VIA Launches EPIA N-Series Nano-ITX Mainboard, the New
Ultra Small Platform for Building the Digital Lifestyle
Pioneering 12cm x 12cm standard x86 platform inspires
new vision of ultra-compact smart connected devices
CeBIT, Hannover, Germany, 19 March 2004 - VIA Technologies,
Inc., a leading innovator and developer of silicon chip
technologies and PC platform solutions, today launched
the VIA EPIA N-Series Nano-ITX Mainboard at CeBIT 2004,
the world's smallest and most highly integrated standard
x86 platform.
Combining the fanless VIA Eden-N processor running at
speeds of up to 1GHz with the new VIA CN400 digital media
chipset, the VIA EPIA N-Series extends the reach of the
x86 architecture into a new wave of ultra-compact smart
connected devices for a wide variety of digital entertainment,
communications, and embedded system design applications.
"In launching the VIA EPIA N-Series, VIA is setting
yet another precedent for small form factor innovation
on the x86 platform," commented Steven S. Lee, Head
of the VIA Embedded Platform Division, VIA Technologies,
Inc. "Smart connected devices that form the basis
of the digital lifestyle can now be smaller than ever,
yet still meet the growing demand for advanced security
and digital media capabilities through the integration
of unique hardware based features such as AES encryption
and MPEG-4 acceleration."
About the VIA EPIA N-Series Nano-ITX mainboard
The VIA EPIA N-Series Nano-ITX mainboard combines the
fanless VIA Eden-N processor with the VIA CN400 digital
media chipset in an ultra-compact, feature-rich 12cm x
12cm platform that has been specifically designed to reduce
the form factor of smart connected devices to the size
of a standard office phone.
The VIA EPIA N is powered by the VIA Eden-N processor
featuring the advanced nanoBGA package measuring just
15mm x 15mm. With its highly efficient design and PowerSaver
3.0 advanced power management technology, the VIA Eden-N
delivers ultra low power consumption levels of as little
as 2.5W at 533MHz and can run fanless at speeds of up
to 1GHz. With its integrated PadLock Security Suite
consisting of two hardware based Random Number Generators
(RNGs) and the PadLock Advanced Cryptography Engine (ACE),
the VIA Eden-N processor has the most advanced hardware-based
security features in the industry, delivering world-class
cryptographic performance for the US government approved
Advanced Encryption Standard (AES) at rates of up to 12.5
Gigabits per second at a speed of 1GHz.
Utilizing the new VIA CN400 digital media chipset with
its integrated S3 Graphics UniChrome Pro IGP (Integrated
Graphics Processor) core, the VIA EPIA N delivers a compelling
Hi-Def visual experience on all display types from
CRT and LCD screens to standard definition TVs and HDTVs.
Leveraging the Chromotion CE Video Display Engine, UniChrome
Pro provides hardware MPEG-2 and MPEG-4 acceleration for
exceptional playback and streaming of high compression
digital video formats with reduced bit rates for VOD applications.
Through advanced video rendering techniques, such as Adaptive
De-interlacing and Video De-blocking, the Chromotion CE
Video Display Engine also delivers perfect playback of
interlaced video on a full range of digital entertainment
devices.
The VIA CN400 also features a robust shared memory architecture
and support for up to 1GB of DDR400/333/266 memory with
the acclaimed FastStream64 memory controller, as
well as a high speed Ultra V-Link interface for a 1GB/s
connection to the VT8237R South Bridge on the VIA EPIA
N mainboard.
With support for Serial ATA, Parallel ATA-133, USB 2.0,
onboard LAN and V-RAID integrated into the VIA VT8237R
South Bridge, the VIA EPIA N-Series provides a comprehensive
range of integrated storage, multimedia and connectivity
options. The board also includes support for VIA Vinyl
Six-TRAC 6-channel audio through 3 audio jacks in the
I/O panel, and can be connected to a growing number of
LVDS embedded LCD panels. In addition, it has a Mini-PCI
slot to provide additional expandability options.
