Live Recording Session

As our world quickly transitions from analog to digital, the PC is radically changing our interaction with digital media. In the past for someone to do a high quality recording they needed to pay obscene amounts of money to get access to a proper recording studio. Now anyone who has a PC can unleash the musician inside, do very high quality recordings, and then through the power of the internet can release that music to a worldwide audience.

To demonstrate the power of the everyday PC as a high definition recording device, VIA played host at this year’s Gnomedex to the Silicon Valley Houserockers (www.svhouserockers.com) in a live concert, with a recording of their performance made available on CD to attendees the very next day. VIA also brought together an expert team of audio and PC specialists including Elric Phares (motherboards.org), Jim Louderback (Ziff Davis) who performed the on-site audio engineering and mastering. The system being used for recording and mixing the CD featured a high-end soundcard with the VIA Envy24 Audio Controller, the VIA K8T800 Pro chipset, and an AMD Athlon™64 processor.

Attendees at Gnomedex enjoy a great performance by the Silicon Valley Rockers, while VIA Reps join in the performance.

Elric Phares (left / left), one of the Recording Engineers for VIA’s Live Recording event, enjoys a moment with Bill Tasto, the Silicon Valley Rocker’s Sound engineer, and masters the album with Jim Louderback right after the show finished.

The VIA crew and Chris Pirello pose in front of the CD duplicators as they pump out copies of the VIA CD for attendees (left). Elsewhere Jim Louderback, the executive producer of the VIA CD, poses with a newlywed couple who got hitched at Gnomedex - now that is dedication to a show!!

VIA was very honored to be part of Gnomedex 2004, a truly great event. We end our coverage with a picture of the man who made the whole show possible - Chris Pirillo.
