Wenchi Chen
President & CEO

Wenchi Chen has been the President & CEO of VIA Technologies, Inc. since 1992 and has overseen its transition from chipset designer to a leading developer of silicon chip technologies and PC platform solutions.

Mr. Chen's strong background in logic design, marketing, and business strategy has propelled VIA to be one of the foremost fabless semiconductor design houses in the world.

Prior to 1992, Mr. Chen co-founded and was President & CEO of Symphony Laboratories. He also held positions of VP Sales and Marketing at hi-tech start up ULSI, and senior architect at Intel Corporation.

Mr. Chen holds an MSEE degree from National Taiwan University and an MSCS from the California Institute of Technology.

Phil Hester
Corporate Vice President and Chief Technology Officer
AMD


Phil Hester is chief technology officer (CTO) at AMD, responsible for setting the architectural and product strategies and plans for AMD’s microprocessor business. Hester also chairs the AMD Technology Council, ensuring that product development, integration, and process organizations align technology capabilities with product direction.

Hester brings 30 years of advanced system design and enterprise computing experience to AMD.  Before joining the company, Hester was co-founder and chief executive officer at Newisys, a Sanmina-SCI company, and spent 23 years at IBM serving in a variety of key leadership and executive technical roles.  While at IBM, Hester lead a number of system technology development efforts, including the RS/6000, and served as one of 15 members of the IBM Corporate Technology Council.

Phil holds a Bachelor of Science and a Masters in Engineering from the University of Texas.

Otto Berkes

Otto Berkes was born in Hungary in 1963, raised and educated in the United State. He graduated from Middlebury College in Vermont with a Bachelor's degree in physics in 1985 and received a Master's degree in computer science and electrical engineering from the University of Vermont in 1989. Otto worked at Autodesk developing the rendering engine for AutoCad 11 and joined Microsoft in 1993, and wrote the first software-accelerated OpenGL pipeline to enable real-time rendering.  Having led the OpenGL development team through two Windows releases, he was later responsible for DirectX graphics from DirectX 5 through DirectX 8. Otto led the initial prototyping and development effort for a game console which became Xbox and helped shape the Xbox technical and market strategy.  Among other roles, he was co-creator of the incubation project that led to the formation of Media Center and the architect of Microsoft's ultra-mobile PC efforts and creator of the "Origami" project, and General Manager for UMPC.

Timothy Chen

Tim Chen is responsible for VIA WW business development and strategic partnerships. Besides presiding over VIA US Sales & Marketing, he serves as technical assistant to the chief executive of VIA, Wenchi Chen.   He has been with VIA Technologies since 1996. Chen began his VIA career in its Taiwan headquarters where he managed the sales and marketing offices of Japan, Korea, and Japan.  In 2000, Chen moved to the US to manage VIA’s sales and marketing activities in the United States. Chen holds a bachelor's degree in Engineering from the University of California Berkeley.

Dr. Gary B. Bronner
Distinguished Engineer
IBM


Gary Bronner is a Distinguished Engineer at IBM and Project Leader for IBM's SOI Development Alliance.  Since 2004 he has been responsible for the research and development of IBM's 90nm, 65nm and 45nm SOI technology.  These technologies are used for IBM internal microprocessors and processors of selected partners such as Via/Centaur.

Previously, Gary was in charge of IBM's DRAM Development Alliance and led the development of IBM's DRAM technology from the 0.25mm generation through the 0.11mm generation.  The technology he developed continues to be used worldwide by all DRAM vendors using trench capacitor dram technology and internally in IBM for embedded DRAM products.

Gary received a B.S. degree in electrical engineering from Brown University and M.S. and Ph.D. degrees from Stanford University.  He is a Fellow of the IEEE.  He has reached the 23rd IBM Invention Achievement Plateau, with 64 patents issued.

Richard Brown

Richard Brown is Vice President Corporate Marketing for VIA Technologies, Inc. Mr. Brown joined VIA in 1999 and has been a key architect in VIA's marketing strategy in transitioning from a core logic chipset design house to leading provider of PC silicon chip technologies and PC platform solutions.

A native of the UK, Mr. Brown has spent the past 16 years living and working in Taiwan. Prior to joining VIA, Mr. Brown served in various management positions at First International Computer (FIC) and Leo Systems, Inc., where he was Director of Marketing. Mr. Brown holds a Bachelor degree in Chinese Modern History and Politics from the University of Westminster, London.

Stuart Brown
Head of Product Development

Stuart Brown is the Head of Product Development at Band Telecom, UK. He has twenty year industry experience in various technology environments, working with a number of small and medium to large corporate enterprises. Stuart also has ten years experience as a Senior Technical Architect in web-based technologies and worked for two years on SIP-based VoIP solutions. He also has been Involved in various VIA EPIA-based solutions since inception - Windows CE and Linux embedded, as well as designing hardware solutions "cool and quiet".

Sunny Chen
Research Manager
Personal Computing Solution


Sunny Chen is the research manager of personal computing solution in IDC Taiwan. She is responsible for managing the research in PC, monitor, handhelds/PDA, server and storage field. Her primary specialty is PC and handhelds/PDA devices. She conducts comprehensive market analysis through primary interviews with vendors, desktop research and information gathered from various sources. She has assisted key clients by providing market insights and competitive strategy through different consulting research projects to help them define the market position and product refinement toward the consumer demand. She works closely with the members in Asia Pacific Personal Computing Team and had won the IDC Research Quality Award in 2003.

Prior to joining IDC Taiwan, Ms. Chen was working for ICP Electronic Inc., an industrial computer and network attached storage vendor, as the market analyst and marketing specialist. Her responsibility includes gathering and analyzing industry information and developing worldwide potential clients. Before IEI, she was working in IDC Taiwan agency as the PC and Printer analyst.

Ms. Chen has a bachelor's degree in Mathematic, with a major in Business Management, from University of Waterloo, Canada.

Weber Chuang

Weber Chuang is Senior Director Product Marketing at VIA Technologies and mainly focuses on technical product marketing for VIA Chipsets. Weber acquired his master degree in Electrical Engineering at the National Taiwan University in 1992, whereupon his career started in R&D Engineering, General Instrument and AE at Mentor Graphics. He then joined VIA in 1996 and led the the high speed signaling simulation and characterization team. Part of Weber's current responsibilities also include 3rd party engagement, new technology survey, new product definition and customer key issue support.

Rob Enderle
President and Principal Analyst

Rob is President and Principal Analyst of the Enderle Group, a forward looking emerging technology advisory firm.  With over 25 years experience in emerging technologies, Rob has provided regional and global companies with guidance in how to better target customer needs; create new business opportunities; anticipate technology changes; select vendors and products; and present their products in the best possible light.  Currently Rob focuses on the emerging technology trends in personal technology. 

In addition Rob writes for TechNewsWorld, DarkReading, Digital Trends, Computer User, Tom's Hardware Guide, and CMO.   Rob appears regularly on WSJ Radio, CNBC, NPR, and Bloomberg Radio/TV.

Before founding the Enderle Group Rob was the Senior Research Fellow for Forrester Research and the Giga Information Group.  While there he worked for and with companies like Microsoft, HP, IBM, Dell, Toshiba, Gateway, Sony, USAA, Texas Instruments, AMD, Intel, Credit Suisse First Boston, GM, Ford, and Siemens. 

Rob sits on the advisory councils for IBM, Toshiba, AMD, HP, Dell, Philips, and the Trusted Computing Group.

Rod Fleck

Advanced Micro Devices, Inc.


Rod Fleck has spent 16 years in design and development of various microprocessor / microcontroller / DSPs for IBM, AMD, SIEMENS / Infineon, and Systemonic (now Philips Semiconductor). Architectures include AMD's 29K series, SIEMENS C16x / STM ST10 series, and Infineon's Tricore. Many of these projects included SOC design for cell phones, disk drives, automotive, and WLAN networking. Rod also spent 3 years in laptop and set-top box design for Vulcan. Over the last year at AMD, Rod has focused on digital media solutions leveraging AMD technology portfolio. Rod graduated from Carnegie-Mellon University, and holds over 30 patents.

Ken Fuhrman

Ken Fuhrman is the Founder and President of Interact-TV, Inc. Ken has over 20 years of experience designing software for video and graphics systems for the broadcast television and video industries. Prior to founding Interact-TV, Ken was the founder and Chairman of Evolving Video Technologies (EVT). EVT merged with RT-SET in 1999; which went public on the Neuer Market in Germany. Prior to EVT, Ken held project management and senior development positions at Ampex Corporation and American Television & Communications. Ken has numerous patents in graphics and video technology and has authored papers on programming and design, graphics systems and digital entertainment technologies. Recently Ken has presented papers at Parks & Assoc. Connections, NAB and at the CEA Fall Forum.

Chi-Wan (Daniel) Hsia

Mr. Hsia received his MS degree of computer science from Northeastern University (Boston). He has broad experience with Unix/Linux, Windows server, TCP/IP networking teaching and support for more than 10 years. He Is also certified as CISCO and CITRIX instructor. Daniel has translated for a number of texts, including "Your UNIX the Ultimate Guide".

Dr. Gwo-Jiunn Huang

Dr Gwo-Jiunn Huang is the Executive Vice-President of the Institute for Information Industry in Taiwan. He is a National Policy Advisor to the President, and currently also holds the position of Supervisory Director of the Industrial Technology Research Institute (ITRI). Dr. Huang graduated from National Cheng-Kung University in Taiwan, and obtained an MSc and DIC from Imperial College, University of London, and a PhD from the University of Wale.

Prof. B. H. Jajoo

Dr. Jajoo is Professor at the India Institute of Management Ahmedabad since 1980 and was a visiting professor in the Department of Computer Science at the University of Delaware, USA, from 1987 to 1989. Prof. Jajoo specializes in computer networks, end user computing, Internet and e-commerce, IT entrepreneurship and mentoring, Network and IT Infrastructure Management and the Design of Organization wide Computing Environment. He was instrumental in setting up the Center for Entrepreneurship in IT at Ahmedabad Management Association and was the chief architect in designing and implementing a large campus wide Intranet for IIM Ahemedabad.

Prof. Jajoo published in Indian and international academic journals and presented papers at several national and international conferences. In addition to seminars, workshops and public lectures, Prof. Jajoo also executed several consulting projects for national and international, private and public sector organizations.

Nandan Kundetkar

As a postgraduate in electronics from Mumbai University, Mr Nandan Kundetkar has conducted many research papers and has a versatile background in the design and development of various high end technology products, specializing in various technology domains. Mr Kundetkar is involved in technical innovation as well as business strategies and marketing. He has to his credit important and revolutionary patents in the IPTV and broadband multimedia and also core advertising and messaging methods that could influence revenue models of IPTV and broadband multimedia in future.  

Mr Kundetkar has a great passion for teaching and has strong international public relations. He works closely with top semiconductor companies on different projects.

Dennis Luo

Dennis Luo is the Project Manager for Microsoft's Ultra-Mobile PC effort. His responsibilities include orchestrating the development of the UMPC platform and working closely with OEMs/ODMs/ISV/IHVs to grow the ecosystem. Previously Dennis was a Program Manager for incubation efforts in Microsoft's Core OS Division (COSD) and Mobile Embedded Devices Division (MED). Prior to Microsoft, Dennis co-founded a 3d graphics startup company, Thinkfish Incorporated, which was acquired by Computer Associates.

Dr. Gerry Liu

Dr. Gerry (Shao-Hung) Liu is currently vice president of marketing of S3 Graphics, an affiliate company of VIA Technologies. Dr. Liu has been previously president of Trident Microsystems Videographics Division and co-managed its venture investment fund. Formerly a two-time entrepreneur prior to joining Trident through its acquisition of Omega Micro, Dr. Liu had been founder and president of two venture-backed companies Knights Technology developing deep-submicron yield enhancement software and Omega Micro for mobile IC design, which were separately acquired by Electroglas (1997) and Trident (1996).

 Dr. Liu was a board member of Monte Jade Science and Technology Association, general chair of Sino-American Technology and Engineering Conference, past president and chairman of Chinese Institute of Engineers/USA and a founding board member and past vice president of Chinese Software Processional Association. Dr Liu received his PhD in Computer Science from UC Berkeley, MSCS from University of Illinois, Chicago, and BSEE from National Taiwan University.

Sascha Pallenberg

Sascha Pallenberg has been a leading proponent of the Mini-ITX form factor for several years, first co-founding Techcase in 2002, a company developing complete hardware and software solutions exclusively for the Mini-ITX platform, then going on to start Epiacenter.de and Epiacenter.com, respected community websites centered around the Mini-ITX form factor and VIA EPIA mainboards, of which he is still Editor-in-Chief. In 2005, he started epiOS GmbH & Co. KG, a software development house providing integrated operating systems targeted at VIA EPIA-based  applications.

Prior to Techcase held positions as Marketing Director at Bense KG and 4Objects GmbH, both software development companies, and Sales Manager at a clothing company. Sascha studied Business Science at the University of Dortmund, and is based in Germany, though shortly will be moving to the US with his new hardware/software solutions company, Tipptouch Inc.

Mingcheng Sheng

Mingcheng Sheng is responsible for the MIS center of ASEKH, the major operation site of ASE Group to provide semiconductor backend service support for worldwide customers. His responsibilities include planning, developing, and provisioning IT services covering ERP, MES/CIM, SCM, PDM, and B2B to support business operation. Dr. Sheng also serves the Chairman of Taiwan CIO association.

He has been with ASE since 2001. Before ASE, Mingcheng was an associate professor in Information Management department of National Ping Tung Institute of Commerce.

Mr. Sheng holds an MSCE degree and a PhD of Information Engineering and Computer Science from National Chiao Tung University.

Kris Verstockt

After studying design in both Antwerp and London, Kris came to Taiwan in 1994 to work as a product designer for a local electronics firm. In 2001, he founded a new design studio called CRE8 to offer services to overseas and local companies alike.

Throughout his13-year design career, Kris and his company have won multiple awards all over the globe and his company has grown from 7 to 20 people. During the academic years of 2003 and 2004 he also lectured a design course at Shih Chien University, where he shared his commercial experience with the designers of tomorrow.

As an active member of the European Chamber of Commerce, Kris gets a chance to interact with many professionals from a wide variety of industries and the organization also allows him participate seminars and workshops.

Wayan Vota

Wayan Vota is a technology expert with a decade of experience in technology project design, implementation, and management in developing as well as developed economies.  He currently manages the Geekcorps Division of IESC, which focuses on delivering international information and communication development programs to government and private foundation clients.  Prior to IESC, Mr. Vota led technology projects with public, private, and governmental organizations such as the National Council of Nonprofit Associations, PricewaterhouseCoopers, and the United States Peace Corps.  Recently, he managed the $30 million, two-year development of a nine-product Web-based software suite for the Worldwide Retail Association in association with IBM.

Epan has been with VIA Technologies since 1999. Her responsbilities include the management of the VIA CPU Platform products, supporting the VIA CPU Platform projects as well as coordination of the marketing activities. Being with the VIA CPU team since the beginning, she has coordinated and managed the VIA CPU Platform transition, growth, and expansion from embedded market usage to a broader range of applications that leverage the x86 platform technology.

Epan holds a bachelor's degree in Information Management from the National Taiwan University.
