Samsung NC20 Continues to Garner Acclaim from Reviewers

The VIA Nano powered Samsung NC20 is continuing to impress reviewers with its larger 12" screen, superior battery-life and excellent application performance. In a recent review in the UK from bit-tech.com, Tim Smalley noted that "...the overall computing experience is much more responsive and snappy - this is thanks to the Nano's Out of Order execution engine". He adds that "..it's a brilliant little machine – especially when you factor in its sub-£375 asking price."

Likewise, Tech Radar went out of their way to point out the superior multimedia capabilities of the NC20’s VIA VX800 MSP; "the VX800 chipset supports HD video decoding and is more than a match for 720p video playback – something traditional Atom-based netbooks simply aren't up to."

While Wired.com positively fell in love with the device; "Samsung's NC20 is a dazzling feat of engineering: an extremely usable 12-inch laptop with epic battery life, impressive specs and a downright mystifyingly affordable price tag", adding that the NC20 "offers the best performance available from a computer this portable….."

VIA GMB Tech Forum Summer

Building on the success of the VIA GMB Tech Forum Spring event in mid-March this year, the VIA GMB Tech Forum Summer again brought together a host of PC manufacturing and infrastructure partners, as well as leading players from the telecommunication industry, all focused on delivering affordable, power efficient mini-notebooks to global markets.

Over 400 participants listened to expert analysis of mini-note device segment trends and future potential, with particular emphasis paid to the importance of 3G integration and applications.

With component partners including leading vendors such as American Megatrends (AMI), InnoLux, ITE Tech, PQI, SanDisk and TD Hi-Tech already onboard, the VIA GMB Alliance has recently added leading Chinese IT service provider, Bluex, to its membership in order to offer after-sales service solutions for all certified devices manufactured by Alliance members.

This comprehensive end-to-end service gave rise to the 'GMB for Life' theme of the event, and reflected the Alliance's ability to assist group members in providing products that can deliver the full benefits of a connected consumer lifestyle including online health services and free communications tools, along with a myriad of entertainment options.

VIA Nano Processor Powers Dell Hyperscale Servers

Dell's Data Center Solutions Division is where many of the world's leading, next-generation servers are designed and created. Their latest creation, the Dell Fortuna XS11-VX8 'ultra-light' server, has attracted a lot of attention in the media recently, not least because it's the first server implementation to feature the power-efficient VIA Nano processor.

The Dell Fortuna XS11-V8 server addresses the needs of specific customers for a high-density, low power server product that could out-perform general purpose server designs with an aggressively lower TCO, while at the same time offering all the management features required of an enterprise-class product. The VIA Nano processor was the answer.

Dell paired the VIA Nano processor with the VIAVX800 media system processor to deliver a server product with the killer combination of a full 64-bit instruction set, full enterprise-class virtualization support and industry-leading energy-efficiency. This allowed Dell to produce an ultra-light, high density product that was tailor-made for Hyperscale environments like Web hosting, Web farms and light load infrastructures where traditional processor platforms are unsuitable.

Shuttle XS29F: The Nano-Powered, Silent Desktop PC

The VIA Nano processor was designed in an attempt to create a processor with the perfect blend of performance and energy-efficiency. Shuttle Inc. took the Nano processor and created the Shuttle XS29F, a new kind of desktop product that takes performance efficiency and low noise to new levels of genius.

Features a VIA Nano processor and the VIA VX800 MSP, with a maximum power usage of under fifty watts for the entire system, and housed in a small form factor, sub-3 liter chassis that is almost one tenth the size of a regular desktop tower, the XS29F from Shuttle re-writes the book on desktop PCs.

Being completely fanless, and therefore almost totally silent, the XS29F is in a class of its own. A system perfectly suited for any modern living room or office environment where whirling fans are counter productive and space is at a premium.

Lenovo IdeaPad S12 Guest Stars @Computex 09

Included in VIA's lineup of latest thin and light notebooks the Lenovo IdeaPad S12 made a quiet appearance at the VIA booth. The 12.1" Lenovo IdeaPad S12 sports a VIA Nano 1.3+Ghz processor and the VX800 chipset and is the 2nd tier 1 OEM to adopt that combination for a 12.1" notebook. PC Magazine had some hands on time with the new notebook:

"Well, Lenovo has delivered, and if my brief experience with the S12, along with its price and specs, are any indication, it should be a strong contender in the higher-end netbook market"

You can view the Lenovo IdeaPad S12 on video here.
