VIA Carbon Offset Program – Environmental Conservation

The VIA Carbon Offset Program offers a range of investments designed to sequester or offset carbon dioxide produced by the VIA line of Carbon Free products. One of these programs involves environmental conservation.

Environmental Conservation – These programs encompass a range of projects aimed at protecting our environment to achieve this goal of carbon neutrality, through donations to recognized, reputable groups that work to preserve wetlands and other necessary ecosystems, as well as groups that address the growing problem of appropriate ICT recycling.

Wetlands provide a great service to the planet by sequestering some of the carbon dioxide pumped into the Earth's atmosphere every day by human activities. Even though wetlands comprise only approximately 4-6% of the Earth's land mass, they are capable of absorbing 20-25% of the atmospheric carbon dioxide, which highlights the need for genuine stewardship to preserve them for generations.

Using the official certification figure set by the environmental organization CarbonNeutral for offsetting carbon per metric ton (www.carbonneutral.com), based upon the average operation time of 8 hours usage per day, at 200 days per year for a 3 year period, it is possible to determine an appropriate donation level to cover the offset. This is represented by a proportion of the product's price, which is paid to organizations charged with the responsibility of preserving wetlands and other natural habitats or to extensive recycling programs for ICT equipment. A third party body governs the transfer and overall supervision of the donation to the organizations in question, thereby certifying the program and its efficacy.
