VIA DualGFX Express Applications
|
The enhanced multi-display support of VIA DualGFX Express
systems can benefit a wide range of users across various
market segments, from digital designers in the professional
space, to users editing their personal video and audio
materials at home. The benefits of multi-display systems
have long been known to many in the enterprise space,
particularly for using design applications such as CAD
and GIS, and in numerous other professional applications
including medical imaging, financial market trading,
and digital broadcasting. These applications can all
benefit from the cost and performance advantages of
VIA DualGFX Express technology.
There is also a significant trend towards home users
using powerful multimedia applications which can benefit
from the ability to run a multi-display system. As more
‘home’ users do tasks such as video editing, audio creation,
or simply want more advanced productivity support, having
a multiple display solution can be very advantageous
and desirable.
For many PC users, desktop real estate limitations
are a serious problem. For many of us who use computers,
it is not uncommon to have 7 or 8 applications open
at any one time on the task bar, leading to constant
switching between applications such as email, internet
browsers and other productivity applications. While
Microsoft Windows has always provided advanced options
for multi-display platforms, finding compliant hardware
has always been a much harder task.
In the below demo we have set up Adobe Premier and
are editing a video. With the DualGFX feature we are
able to stretch the working panel across the first two
screens allowing us to view more of the working timeline.
On the third screen we are still running the interfaces
for our Internet browser, messenger, and media player
controls.
Multi-Display Video Editing

For power PC users such as graphics artists, CAD designers
and day traders, multiple displays can really be an
extremely helpful feature. In the below screenshot we
have a system running Maya 3D creation software on two
screens with a third screen for other applications.
Multi-Display Productivity

Another potential application
area is gaming. Currently
only a few games support
multi-display gaming,
however, as the prices
of LCDs drop, and platforms
such as VIA DualGFX Express
become more widely available,
game developers will
have a real opportunity
to integrate multi-display
support. For the gamer
running games in multi-display
mode can lead to a much
improved playing experience.
Whether you play first
person shooters and want
to keep a map on a second
screen, or put your tool
and taskbars on a second
monitor in your favorite
MMORG, multi-display
gaming is definitely
a trend we will see a
lot more of in future.
