The VIA ProSavage™ KN400 is the next generation chipset designed
to bring high-end desktop performance to the mobile AMD Athlon™ XP-M
Processors. The low power VIA ProSavage™ KN400 provides a highly balanced
and scalable platform for a complete spectrum of thin and light mobile
designs.
Marked by a complete redesign from the ground up, the
VIA ProSavage KN400 now boasts a slew of integrated
features that blurs the line between mobile and desktop
computing. Featuring the integrated VIA UniChrome™ 2D/3D
AGP graphics core with built-in motion compensation
and MPEG-2 acceleration, the VIA ProSavage KN400 delivers
stunning video quality for key mobile digital media
applications such as digital video playback. Furthermore,
with its flexible 200/266/333 Mhz front side bus settings,
the KN400 supports the complete range of mobile AMD
Athlon processors including the latest AMD Athlon XP-M
processor 2400+ based on the "Barton" core.
Versatility being the key, the high performance of the
KN400 with its high-speed memory controller can be married
to the full selection of DDR memory types as well as
a host of advanced connectivity and multimedia features
including USB 2.0 and six-channel VIA Vinyl™ AC'97 audio.
The VIA ProSavage KM400 North Bridge is connected to the VIA
VT8235CE or VIA VT8237R Plus South
Bridge through a fast 8X V-Link connection which provides a dedicated
533MB/s bus between the North and South bridge. Additionally, with
an integrated VIA MAC for 10/100Mbps Fast Ethernet connectivity as
well as integrated PCI support, the VT8235CE and VIA VT8237R Plus provide
unrivaled connectivity and multimedia functionality on the mobile
platform. |

Integrated VIA UniChrome™ Graphics
The VIA ProSavage KN400 comprises integrated UniChrome™ 2D/3D graphics
optimized for key productivity applications as well as digital video
playback through a hardware MPEG-2 accelerator, and features DuoView™
functionality for an extended desktop, making it the perfect chipset
for corporate notebooks based on the AMD Athlon™ XP processor.
Low Power Consumption
DDR Memory operates at only 2.5V offering an immediate reduction
in power consumption. The VIA ProSavage KN400 is also fully compliant
with AMD PowerNow! Version 2.0 realising the benefits of dynamic
power management and extending battery life even further.
Unified Hyperion 4-in-1 Drivers
VIA’s unified approach to chipset drivers has been maintained
for eight generations of chipsets, allowing end-users to benefit
from high performance and seamless compatibility when using any Microsoft
Windows® operating system. |
