The VIA KT400A takes the AMD Athlon™ XP processor to the summit
of system performance with a FastStream64™ memory controller technology,
333MHz Front Side Bus, AGP 8X Graphics, 6-Channel Audio, Serial ATA,
ATA-133, USB 2.0 and 8X V-Link chip interconnect.
Building on the success of seven generations of market leading Chipsets
for the AMD Athlon™ XP processor, the VIA KT400A boasts a complete
set of today's cutting-edge features combined with VIA's ultra efficient
FastStream64™ memory controller technology, delivering performance
equivalent to or superior than 128-bit solutions. DDR400 memory support,
offering 20% more memory bandwidth to the CPU than DDR333, and the
fast 200/266/333MHz processor bus, unleash the full power of AMD Athlon™
XP processors, enabling stunning performance across the full spectrum
of applications.
In addition, the VIA KT400A supports the very latest I/O technologies
including AGP 8X deriving maximum performance from the most powerful
graphics processors. 6-Channel surround sound AC'97 audio completes
the audio-visual experience offering an integrated high quality sound
solution when listening to mp3s, watching movies, or playing the latest
games. The KT400A North Bridge is connected to a VT8237R Plus
South Bridge through the fast 8X V-link connection at 533MB/s.
With two channel native support for Serial ATA in the South Bridge
supplying 150MB/s of bandwidth, as well as up to Eight USB 2.0 ports
the VT8237R Plus offers the highest possible peripheral performance for
professional and home users.
The VT8237R Plus also features support for Parallel ATA-133 devices extending
flexibility to the system integrator by allowing for mainstream or
value configurations leveraging the existing technology standard.
Additional features include a VIA MAC for 10/100Mbps Fast Ethernet,
integrated PCI support, and an MC'97 modem. The VIA KT400A also benefits
from VIA Hyperion 4in1 Drivers which deliver seamless compatibility
with the latest software and hardware. |

FastStream64 Technology
VIA FastStream64™ Technology uses an expanded array of prefetch buffers
to reduce latency in the memory controller, extending performance
at a lower transistor cost than dual channel implementations. With
a 200/266/333MHz processor bus and supporting DDR200/266/333/400
memory, the VIA KT400A provides lightning fast access to system memory
and can reach a peak bandwidth of 3.2GB/sec, 25% greater than the
KT400, enabling the full performance potential of the fastest AMD
Athlon™ XP processors to be harnessed.
A Platform for Next Generation Integrated Audio
The 6-Channel Surround Sound Audio supported in the VT8235 and VT8237R Plus
South Bridges, combined with a high quality external Codec like the
VIA VT1616 with enhanced driver support, enables a rich, vibrant
sound that will enhance the user experience when listening to music,
watching movies, or playing games.
Native Serial ATA Support
The VT8237R Plus is the latest in a series of market leading South Bridge
chips integrating the latest in I/O innovation like Serial ATA enabling
supreme performance in the most Hard Drive intensive tasks.

VIA's unified approach to Chipset drivers has been established for
8 generations of Chipsets, allowing end users to benefit from high
performance and seamless compatibility when using any Microsoft Windows®.
