VIA Launches KN400 Chipset to Support Mobile AMD Athlon
XP-M Processors
Low power VIA ProSavage KN400 provides a highly
balanced and scalable platform for a complete spectrum
of high performance desktop replacement and thin and
light notebook designs
Taipei, Taiwan, 12 March 2003 - VIA Technologies, Inc.,
a leading innovator and developer of silicon chip technologies
and PC platform solutions, today announced the launch
of the VIA ProSavage KN400 chipset supporting the new
mobile AMD Athlon XP-M processor.
Featuring the integrated S3 Graphics UniChrome 2D/3D
AGP graphics core with built-in MPEG-2 acceleration,
the VIA ProSavage KN400 chipset has been designed from
the ground up to deliver stunning video quality for
key mobile digital media applications such as DVD playback.
With its flexible 200/266/333MHz Front Side Bus settings,
the KN400 is optimized to run the complete range of
mobile AMD Athlon XP-M processors, including the latest
AMD Athlon XP-M processor 2400+ based on the "Barton"
core. Performance and versatility are further enhanced
by support for a full selection of DDR memory types,
as well as a host of advanced connectivity and multimedia
features including USB 2.0 and six-channel audio.

VIA ProSavage KN400
The VIA ProSavage KN400 is a low power yet highly
integrated chipset for the AMD Athlon XP-M processor.
In addition to a built-in S3 Graphics UniChrome 2D/3D
AGP graphics core with motion compensation and integrated
hardware MPEG-2 acceleration for rich DVD performance,
the KN400 North Bridge features support for a full range
of DDR200/266/333/400 SDRAM types through its high-speed
memory controller.
The KN400 North Bridge is connected to the VT8235CE
South Bridge or the forthcoming pin compatible VT8237R
South Bridge through a fast 8X V-Link 533MB/s connection.
With an integrated VIA MAC for 10/100Mbps Fast Ethernet
connectivity, and six-channel VIA Vinyl AC'97 audio,
as well as ATA-133 and USB 2.0 support, the VT8235CE
provides unrivaled connectivity and multimedia functionality
on a mobile platform.
