VIA and TEAC Deliver Smart Digital Entertainment with the Multimedia PC at IFA 2003

Based on the VIA EPIA M10000, the stylish new TMM-2020 Multimedia PC from TEAC leads the way in converging consumer electronics functionality and design with full PC functionality

Berlin, Germany - 1 September 2003 - VIA Technologies, Inc, a leading innovator and developer of silicon chip technologies and PC platform solutions, and TEAC, an innovative manufacturer of consumer electronics and data recording systems, today announced the new TEAC TMM-2020 Multimedia PC, a silent running all-round entertainment device based on the VIA EPIA M10000 Mini-ITX mainboard, that records TV shows with the ease of a VCR while enabling full PC productivity applications and Internet connectivity.

This system will be on display at the Internationale Funkausstellung (IFA) show, taking place in Berlin from August 29th to September 3rd, at the VIA booth 230 in Hall 1.2, and will be showcased at the "Inspired by VIA" press conference today.

Leading the home convergence device market, the TMM-2020 integrates entertainment electronics and x86 PC technology in an innovative and intelligent way, enabling remote controlled TV recording and playback as well as Internet connectivity from the comfort of the living room couch. Optimized for the TV or hi-fi cabinet with its silent operation and stylish, low profile design, the versatile TMM-2020 comes packaged with Showshifter software for easy digital video recording and the Microsoft® Windows® XP operating system for full computing and connecting functionality.

"Modern consumer electronics devices for advanced entertainment applications such as digital video recording and playback require full x86 compatibility for optimum flexibility and performance, yet need to retain the look and feel of a standard VCR, and the VIA EPIA M10000 mainboard facilitates just such a combination with its compact size, low power consumption and low profile," said Richard Brown, Associate Vice President of Marketing, VIA Technologies, Inc. "With the TMM-2020, TEAC have created the ultimate convergence device that provides the best of both the PC and CE worlds, incorporating all the multimedia and connecting capabilities of a PC into a living room friendly device."

"The TMM-2020 is a futuristic home entertainment system in the sense that it has the style and presence required by discerning consumers, and is ultra reliable and quiet because it functions without a single fan and boasts all the capabilities and connectivity of a PC running Windows XP," commented Petar Stojcevic, Product Manager at TEAC Deutschland GmbH. "The idea behind the TMM-2020 is crystal clear: whether looking at digital photos, watching DVDs, recording TV shows or chatting to friends online - it's all about entertainment!

The TMM-2020 can be connected either to the television set or a PC monitor, and every function can be conveniently controlled using the infrared remote control or ergonomic infrared keyboard. In line with the trend towards aesthetic designs, the system features a stylish anodized aluminum housing that fits in perfectly with the living room environment.
