VIA Expands PadLock Security Initiative
with Release of VIA PadLock Software Security Suite
Builds upon VIA's industry leadership in integrating
advanced hardware based security features in the processor
by providing a flexible solution for fast, efficient,
and ultra-secure corporate communication
CeBIT, Hannover, Germany, 19 March 2004 - VIA Technologies,
Inc, a leading innovator and developer of silicon chip
technologies and PC platform solutions, today announced
the release of the VIA PadLock Software Security Suite,
comprising a secure corporate communications utility and
software development kit that provide an open robust,
and scalable framework for enabling ultra-secure communications
solutions for corporate environments.
As companies increasingly depend upon digital tools such
as email, instant messaging, and Voice over IP telephony/videoconferencing
for everyday business communications, the recent explosion
of spam, viruses, and malevolent hackers is negatively
impacting the effectiveness and efficiency of these applications
and threatening to compromise the confidentiality of corporate
information. This, in turn, is leading companies to search
for alternative methods of conducting secure, inexpensive
communication and information sharing.
Introduced as part of the VIA PadLock Security Initiative,
the VIA PadLock Software Security Suite responds to this
need by providing a powerful and flexible tool that melds
chat and point-to-point file transfer functionality with
an advanced public key model and AES encryption to enable
the creation of ultra-secure pathways between users.
The VIA PadLock Software Security Suite is fully compatible
with Microsoft® Windows® and Linux operating system
environments, and leverages the advanced random number
generation and AES encryption features integrated into
the latest "C5P Nehemiah" core of the VIA Eden,
VIA C3®, and VIA Antaur processors. This unique
platform-centric approach not only guarantees the generation
of higher quality encryption keys, but also higher speed
data encryption/decryption over conventional software
based methods used on alternative processor platforms.
"Security is an increasingly critical challenge
for the IT industry, yet we continue to struggle to find
answers that are practical to implement and not cost or
resource prohibitive," commented Richard Brown, Associate
Vice President of Marketing, VIA Technologies, Inc. "Our
goal with the VIA PadLock Security Initiative is to provide
the basic software and hardware building blocks that adhere
to existing industry standards in order to expedite the
creation of a ubiquitous security environment."
The VIA PadLock SL Utility is being offered as a free
download from VIA, available in Windows and Linux versions
under a GNU General Public license. The utility will function
on any x86 system, but is optimized for use with the latest
VIA Eden, VIA C3®, and VIA Antaur processors
featuring the "C5P Nehemiah" core. To learn
