VIA Boosts EPIA MII-Series Mini-ITX Mainboards with
1.2GHz VIA C3 Processor and More Security Features
New VIA EPIA MII12000 spurs new applications for the
VIA Mini-ITX form factor through introduction of innovative
new technologies from VIA
Taipei, Taiwan, 29 April 2004 - VIA Technologies, Inc,
a leading innovator and developer of silicon chip technologies
and PC platform solutions, today announced the VIA EPIA
MII12000 Mini-ITX mainboard featuring the 1.2GHz VIA C3
processor that integrates the latest generation of the
VIA PadLock Hardware Security Suite for small form factor
smart digital media devices in the home and small business
markets.
The VIA EPIA MII12000 brings the VIA PadLock Advanced
Encryption Engine (ACE) to the VIA Mini-ITX form factor
for the first time, enabling high speed AES encryption
and decryption of data at a sustained rate of 12.8 Gb/s
with minimal work load on the processor. The highly efficient
onboard VIA C3 processor operates at 1.2GHz, making it
the highest performing VIA EPIA Mini-ITX mainboard on
the market.
Maintaining the signature low profile module of the VIA
EPIA MII-Series, the VIA EPIA MII12000 can connect to
wireless networks by using best of breed 802.11a/802.11b/802.11g
notebook wireless cards in the onboard CardBus slot and
it also features a CompactFlash slot for easy transfer
of photos from digital camera memory cards. Additional
connectivity is provided through the onboard Firewire
(IEEE1394) port that compliments the two USB2.0 ports
on the I/O back panel, providing more options for high-speed
data transfer between smart digital devices.

About the VIA PadLock Hardware Security Suite
The VIA PadLock Hardware Security Suite is integrated
into VIA C5P Nehemiah core processors and features the
VIA PadLock Random Number Generator (RNG) for high quality
key generation and the VIA PadLock Advanced Encryption
Engine (ACE) for high-speed performance of the US government
approved Advanced Encryption Standard (AES).
The VIA PadLock ACE is a powerful Advanced Cryptography
Engine that can encrypt or decrypt data at a sustained
rate of 12.8 Gb/s. In addition to a single application
being able to use the VIA PadLock ACE, any number of tasks
can use it concurrently without requiring supplemental
task management by the application or the operating system.
The VIA PadLock ACE has hardware support for all three
AES key sizes (128-bits, 196-bits, and 256-bits) with

for seamless broadband connectivity. The VIA EPIA MII

LCD panels, has a PCI slot for expandability options,
and is compatible with a full range of Mini-ITX chassis
as well as FlexATX and MicroATX enclosures.
