News Release
VIA Rocks with the Geeks at Gnomedex 4.0!
VIA hosts a live recording event to demonstrate how
an everyday PC can become a powerful recording studio
with a VIA Vinyl Envy high definition audio controller
Taipei, Taiwan, 30 September 2004, - VIA Technologies,
Inc, a leading innovator and developer of silicon chip
technologies and PC platform solutions, today announced
an exciting schedule for Gnomedex 4.0, including a live
concert, great prizes and a feast of personal electronics
on show.
Gnomedex 4.0 takes place at Harrah’s Lake Tahoe from
Thursday 30th September to Sunday 2nd October 2004,
and the live recording event, featuring the Silicon
Valley Houserockers in concert, takes place on Friday
1st October at the same venue.
As the digitization of music rapidly progresses, the
PC is radically changing in principal function, and
is liberating the consumer by enabling more creativity
and manageability than ever before. In the past, the
cost of making a high quality field recording was prohibitive
and involved a specialized recording studio. Now, anyone
with a PC can unleash the musician inside, making very
high quality recordings and, through the power of the
internet, releasing that music to a worldwide audience.
To demonstrate the power of the everyday PC as a high
definition recording device, VIA will host at this year’s
Gnomedex the Silicon Valley Houserockers (www.svhouserockers.com)
live in concert, and a recording of their performance
will be made available on CD to attendees the very next
day. VIA has brought together an expert team of audio
and PC specialists including Elric Phares (motherboards.org),
Jim Louderback (Ziff Davis), and Tom Paddock (former
sound man for the Grateful Dead and Steely Dan), who
will be doing on-site audio engineering and mastering.
The system being used for recording and mixing the CD
features a high-end soundcard with the VIA Envy24 Audio
Controller, and the VIA K8T800 Pro chipset, the latest
chipset for the AMD Athlon™64 processor.
VIA will also sponsor a number of exciting giveaways,
including VIA EPIA Mini-ITX mainboards, high-end audio
cards from leading supplier Ego Systems and Terratec
featuring VIA Vinyl Envy audio controllers, special
web authoring software from Adobe Systems, processors
from AMD, Techie Toyz from Mad Dog Multimedia and much
more.
Keeping with the audio theme for the event, VIA will
also display the WorldVibrations Radio Station-in-a-box
based on the VIA EPIA M10000 Mini-ITX mainboard and
the highly acclaimed VIA Envy24 audio controller, an
all-in-one, professional quality yet easy to use appliance
for on-the-air, Internet, corporate network, satellite
or in-house broadcasting.
VIA will also show a range of innovative digital entertainment
devices focused on online distribution and management
of digital content, including the new Lafayette MediaREADY
4000 from Video Without Boundaries that features the
Linux-based Media Convergence Software Suite (MCSS)
from C.A.C. Media and combines consumer electronics,
PC and PC peripherals into an all-in-one product for
the living room. For the telematics enthusiast, VIA
will show the Mediabox from Autocom that acts as an
all-in-one in car media player, Internet service and
navigation system due to incredible versatility of the
VIA EPIA M10000 Mini-ITX mainboard.
Additionally, VIA will have the soon-to-be-released
VIA EPIA SP Mini-ITX and EPIA N Nano-ITX mainboards
on hand, which feature the latest hardware-based security
and digital media acceleration technologies. See the
